Food for Thought: Great Grains
I recently attended an event called Grainstorm. Hosted by Chatham University’s Center for Regional Agriculture, Food, and Transformation, (C.R.A.F.T.), it highlighted grains grown and processed in western Pennsylvania. Grainstorm made me wonder what our customers think about locally grown grains vs. those grown on commodity farms. Are regional grains something you’re interested in? If so, take a minute to share your thoughts by completing a quick survey at the link below. Thank you! Marti
Tofu, also known as “bean curds,” is a fermented soy product that has a 2,000 year history. Hailing from China, it was once a cold-weather staple before refrigerators became commonplace. Tofu became increasingly popular in the United States during the 1970’s growing vegetarian movement. Cleveland Tofu opened shop in Cleveland in 1976 and produces their tofu from soybeans that are grown in the same state. Below are a couple of ways to enjoy tofu.
Just a reminder: tofu is a fresh product created without preservatives. Be sure to change the water daily once you open the container.
This brussel sprout and mushroom tofu bowl hits all of our savory dinner checkmarks. Prepare ahead of time by pressing your tofu before frying up, and you’ve got a 10-minutes-to-make meal.
No pressing? No problem. Crumble up your tofu and use it as a vegan-friendly scrambled egg alternative. Try this simple veggie-roasted scramble on your next breakfast-for-dinner night.
Tofu for dessert? Most sweet tofu recipes require silken tofu, but not this Matcha No-Bake Cheesecake. You can also pick up matcha powder from Happy Mug here at the market.
Our goal is to provide access to fresh, locally grown food while being an entrepreneurial marketplace for food producers; and an understanding of the importance of both.
